On July 27th, 2022, Courtney received the devastating news at only 31 years old that she was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer.
After a difficult year with two previous surgeries for Courtney and two separate hospital visits, medical bills are already piling up.
Courtney lights up every room she enters. People are drawn to her free spirit, generosity, and humor. She always wears a smile and has a positive attitude, which has continued through these challenging times. Courtney is the most selfless person you will ever meet and would do anything for a friend or even a stranger. The world needs more people like her, and if anyone deserves help during a tough time, it is Courtney and her loving, supportive husband. Courtney has approached her diagnosis with strength, confidence, and the sense of humor we all love.
Now, let me introduce myself. I am Courtney’s sister-in-law, Marissa. We both married Miller boys, and although we are a family by marriage, we are close friends by choice. The first time I met Courtney in 2018, I was welcomed into the family and felt Courtney’s love immediately. Courtney’s road to this diagnosis began in May of 2022 when she began experiencing symptoms. Within the months to follow, doctors strongly encouraged her to go to Urgent Care, which led to a GI visit, followed by a colonoscopy. When Courtney woke up from her procedure, the doctor regretfully informed her that he had found a mass, which he firmly believed to be cancerous.
As you can imagine, Courtney and her husband, Graham, were shocked to hear this news. A few days later, she received confirmation of a cancer diagnosis. Since then, she hit the ground running, actively pursuing testing, bloodwork, scans, ultrasounds and doctor visits to develop a treatment plan.
After seeking counsel from numerous specialists and doctors, Courtney was told her case is rare in the location of her tumor and is challenging to treat considering her young age. After many sleepless nights, Courtney has decided to start chemotherapy to help shrink the tumor and will still likely need surgery down the line to remove it altogether. Unfortunately, this treatment path would mean that her chances of being able to conceive children naturally are at risk, and IVF may be her only option to conceive a child in the future. Courtney and Graham’s chance to preserve fertility is on a short timeline before beginning chemotherapy. This venture is difficult and costly. She is hopeful that once she beats cancer, she and Graham can grow their family as they have always dreamed of.
I am sure you can imagine that the costs are adding up. Both Graham and Courtney are very hardworking individuals, trying their best to stay afloat; however, they know they will need all the help they can get. Courtney has been in and out of her full-time job due to increasing doctor appointments and procedures. Meanwhile, Graham has been juggling school, an internship, and work but has also taken time off to support, care for, and spend time with Courtney. The two have already exhausted their PTO/Sick days and still have a long road ahead.
Battling Courtney's cancer and preserving fertility is exceptionally costly but could hopefully be possible with your help.
No amount is too small to alleviate the financial burden of all of this. Your donations will be used towards Courtney’s treatment, medical bills, surgery…etc. If you cannot donate, Courtney’s family and friends will be coordinating meal trains to their home, and prayers are always welcomed! Thank you so much for your support in our efforts to help
Courtney's fight against cancer!
