Hi, my name is Acquilla, “Lellay’s youngest daughter,” and I’m writing this on behalf of myself and my older sister, Kewanda, who lives abroad.
It breaks our hearts to share that our beautiful mum, Yvette “Lellay” Barrett, passed away suddenly. I found out over the phone, just two days before starting my second year at university in Birmingham, and it has left me in complete shock and deep grief.
Our mum was the kind of person who lit up every room — funny, kind, and so full of love. She never failed to make people laugh, and she touched everyone around her in such a special way. Her absence has left a space that can never be filled.
She lived with diabetes and carried a lot of struggles in silence, both physically and mentally, but she always found the strength to keep going and to make others smile.
Right now, our family is trying to come together to give her the farewell she deserves. Losing her so suddenly has been overwhelming in every way — emotionally and financially — and we weren’t prepared for the costs of her funeral and memorial.
We’re reaching out with humility to ask for support. Whether that’s through a donation, sharing this page, or simply keeping us in your thoughts and prayers, it would mean so much to us. Every bit of kindness will go directly towards giving Mum a loving and dignified goodbye.
