Legal Fees

Hi everyone. I'm raising funds to help my sister, Kat, and her kids move to Louisville. Last month she bought a house a few blocks away from me and my children. She's enrolled the kids in an amazing school in Louisville. This is all within her rights per her divorce decree. We are *so* close to finally being together as a family and building a support network for one another and our children (not to mention being only a couple hours from friends and family in Chicago and the Midwest).

This dream is in jeopardy, however, since she's currently caught in a legal battle, which is an attempt to trap her in Texas. She's fighting against financial intimidation and control, with the assumption that she will concede to unreasonable demands when she's not able to pay the legal fees that go along with fighting for one's rights.

Her divorce cost approximately $75,000. Only fifteen months later, she's being forced to relitigate the entire final decree. No family ties or job requirements are keeping them in Texas. It took countless hours of labor and sheer willpower to overcome the financial (not to mention psychological and emotional) cost of the original divorce proceeding, particularly when faced with that debt after being a stay-at-home mother for half a decade. Kat has worked incredibly hard over the past several years to prove income, build a business, and provide a safe, secure, and happy home for her two children. She and the kids were finally on the rebound and flourishing. Please help us prevent an unjust system from dragging them back down.
