Yusra Javed Memorial Scholarship
Donation protected
The Queen's Park Press Gallery is raising money for a scholarship in honour of our 2019 summer intern, Yusra Javed.
Yusra passed away this summer at the age of 21 after a serious and sudden heart illness. She was a dogged politics reporter who took politicians to task and was set to graduate Ryerson University's undergraduate journalism program in 2020.
The reporters at Queen's Park will establish an annual $2,000 scholarship for a bright journalism student at Ryerson University. To honour Yusra's memory and interests, the scholarship will be given with preference to a student of colour.
Press gallery treasurer Mike Crawley of CBC News will withdraw your funds into the gallery's bank account. The money will then be transferred to Ryerson University, where it will be invested in a trust to be drawn on annually for the scholarship.
