Care of Police Survivors
COPS provide practical and emotional support for bereaved families, ensuring survivors have the help they need to cope with such a tragedy, and that they remain part of the police family as they rebuild their lives.
D&CP have committed to a ride (team) riding in the Police Unity Tour (PUT) in support of the charity Care of Police Survivors (COPS). The 2025 ride is being held in August. The Police Unity Tour is a multi-day cycle ride from different force HQs to the National Memorial Arboretum in Lichfield, Staffordshire (to coincide with The Care of Police Survivors Annual Service of Remembrance on Sunday 3 August).
The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of and honour colleagues who have died in the line of duty, and to raise funds for the work of the (COPS) charity.
The D&CP ride will cycle from Middlemoor HQ to Dorset HQ (Winfrith) and will then join with the Dorset ride – who in turn join with other rides along the way. This is four full days cycling leaving Middlemoor on Wednesday 30 July and arriving close to the National Arboretum on Saturday 2 August. There is then a short cycle to the ceremony is then on Sunday 3 August (day 5) and returning to Force by vehicle later that day.
Each day will be between 60 to 100 miles (TBC), apart from Sunday which is a very short ride day, so a significant level of fitness and experience is needed; you will need to supply your own bike. There is a modest entry fee and a commitment to raise sponsorship with a target of £400 – there will be Force support both for the event and to assist with sponsorship.
