This morning (1/17/2022) around 8am, my fiancé found a husky laying beneath our truck in the driveway.
I spent an hour trying to get close to her, offering her food/water, but she would not take anything. She growled and snarled at me; it was clear she was scared and in a lot of pain. Using my own dog as help to gain her trust, I was able to get close enough to get a slip lead on and bring her into my garage.
She had multiple scrapes which were bleeding, some blood on her mouth, and she
put no weight on her rear leg. She seemed exhausted and collapsed after a few steps. I called my local Vet ER, then found a neighbor to help me wrap her in a blanket & lift her into my car.
We got to the ER where they rushed her back due to pale gums and possibly needing blood. I “named” her MIA (missing in action) on the paperwork, signed the emergency treatment auth, and sat in the waiting room.
Once examined, Vet says MIA is around 1 year old and is overall healthy. Her injuries are consistent with being hit by a car - She is being treated for shock and has a dislocated left rear hip.
She will have labs, more imaging to rule out internal bleeding/injuries, then will be sedated to relocate her hip before fitting her with an Ehmer sling. The Vet will continue to manage her pain while monitoring for the day.
MIA did NOT have a collar and does NOT have a microchip. Right now, I am still hopeful to find her owners as she appears well taken care of. I have posted her photos and story to social media and appreciate all who have shared it.
As an animal lover and owner of 3 dogs myself, I couldn’t bear to see this beautiful baby hurt while looking for her owners or a humane society. I agreed to take financial responsibility of her treatment at the ER.
The vet gave me an estimate of $1805 for today’s treatment, including monitoring and discharge meds. I paid the $1805 and left MIA in their care, waiting at home for more updates while I search for her family.
Although I do not know MIA (or her real name), I am grateful she chose our house to rest at, & that her injuries are relatively minor and treatable. I created this GoFundMe in hopes there are other dog lovers who might be willing to help contribute toward MIA’s recovery
Thank you in advance, any little bit helps!!
