Dear friends, colleagues in the Education Profession, and kind-hearted strangers,
This case contains multiple Charter Violations which could potentially affect ALL teachers in Ontario, (125,000) and the Union, ETFO refuses to acknowledge these significant violations of a Teacher's Charter Rights.
I was an elementary teacher with the Peel District School Board for 23 years. An active member of the school community supporting the growth and development of the next generation. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I find myself in an incredibly challenging situation and am reaching out for your support.
For over 18 months, I have been without salary or medical benefits due to the egregious actions of the Peels District School Board and lack of support from the Elementary Teacher Federation of Ontario (ETFO/PETL); (i.e., 8 grievances filed and subsequently pulled by ETFO). The employer is engaged in a campaign to financially and emotionally starve me into submission. Due to the series of actions by the Peel District School Board, I have been diagnosed with PTSD as well as other medical issues caused by extreme stress and anxiety. By preventing me from returning to work and refusing to acknowledge both medical and government interventions, the Peel District School Board is violating my Human Rights on a protected ground. I currently have ongoing filings against the Peel District School Board with the Ontario Labor Relations Board (OLRB), The Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO), Workman's Compensation Board (WSIB), the Ministry of Labor (MOL) as well as filings with the Law Society, HRPA.
Due to the blatant disregard for the law, the Peel District School Board is preventing me from accessing my Pension which would help to alleviate some of the financial burden at this time. This has resulted in the loss of my salary, benefits, and savings, placing an immense financial burden on me and my family.
Despite my exhaustive efforts to resolve this situation, the challenges have only compounded, leaving me struggling to meet daily living expenses. I am dedicated to advocating for my rights and seeking justice, but the financial strain has become overwhelming.
Your generosity can make a significant difference during this trying time. Any contributions will go directly towards covering my basic living expenses—mortgage, groceries, bills, and medical needs—as I navigate this difficult period.
I appreciate any support you can offer, whether it’s a donation or simply sharing my story. Together, we can help ensure that I can focus on my mental and physical health and future while fighting for my rights.
If anyone else has a similar situation with the Peel District School Board and/or ETFO/PETL Union, then please share your story.
United we can make a change.
Thank you for your support.
With gratitude,
Robert Currie
