OUR CAUSE: COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION

Mission Emanuel is a cross-cultural, relational, Christian ministry that strives to promote discipleship through short-term mission trips targeted on community transformation. The ministry is focused on transforming a community through the power and love of Jesus Christ. Mission Emanuel is headquartered in the small villages of Cielo and Nazaret, on the western edge of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and is an official 501(c)3. 

The ministry operates two schools, a pediatric medical clinic, a physical therapy clinic, a water purification facility, a dental clinic, and a women's economic cooperative.

THIS PROJECT: A NEW PLAYGROUND

Since October 1995, Mission Emanuel has sponsored a vibrant school in the Nazaret community. Through the years, the school has grown dramatically and now has 400+ children in Pre-K through 9th grade.

The children at Nazaret are like school children everywhere: recess is a highlight of their day. Play is a important component of education. Research shows  that play is critical to a child's development - emotionally, physically, socially, and creatively. 

As the above photos demonstrate, years of enthusiastic play by thousands of energetic children have worn the Nazaret playground equipment. For the safety, protection, and enjoyment of the children, it’s time to replace the playground.

There is a simple, creative solution to this challenging problem. And we invite you to be a key part of the solution.

FUNDRAISING: A NEW-TO-US PLAYGROUND

Mission Emanuel volunteers and donors have rallied around this project to replace the playground at the Nazaret school.

Two great pieces of news already! 

1. Mission Emanuel has located a US-based non-profit that refurbishes playground equipment and provides it to mission organizations like ours for volunteers to install. This equipment is much-less expensive – but just as functional – as brand-new equipment. We can replace all the playground equipment at Nazaret for $32,000. The photo above shows new playground equipment from the same non-profit being installed several years ago nearby at Quita Sueno. 

2.  We have made significant progress towards our fundraising goal. We have raised$ 15,000 already.
