In Memory of Dave

Hello…I’m Helen and I’m fundraising for the PRU hospital in Farnborough Common by walking a marathon on 28th May 2022.

On May 27th 2019 my husband Dave was admitted to ICU and stayed for 3 weeks in an induced coma. My friends and family watched and waited every day for Dave to wake up but tragically he never opened his eyes again.

Dave was then moved onto a general ward - Medical 1 and decisions were made under the palliative team to slowly remove the support to allow him to pass away as peacefully and comfortably as possible.

The staff at the PRU provided outstanding care to Dave but also supported me and my friends and family through the most difficult time to date of my life.

This is the reason why I have decided to fundraise for the hospital.

I’m walking 42km to mark the 42 days that Dave was in the PRU. It might not seem that big a challenge - 1km for each day that they cared for him..but for someone who didn’t do any physical exercise before this… it is!

I will carry Dave always and forever in my heart but will also always remember those special people at the hospital who supported me at the very beginning of this journey of moving forward in some way. X
