My name is Pamela Profka, and I’m fundraising for my dad, a loving father, husband, uncle, brother, and son. One month before his 52nd birthday, he received devastating news: glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive primary brain cancers.
A treatment that can extend life and improve quality of life exists, but it isn’t publicly reimbursed in Québec. For the first time in 20 years, there is hope thanks to Optune. It is the only treatment recognized internationally and by Canadian consensus that can prolong the lives of patients with glioblastoma.
We’re doing everything we can; advocacy, letters to elected officials, and exploring every single avenue while time still matters. Meanwhile, our family has to act now to cover the costs of starting treatment.
My dad has vision impairment from the tumor, and our family’s ability to work and earn has been deeply affected since the diagnosis. We’re humbled to ask for your help: every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to starting treatment and gives our family precious time together.
How your donation will be used:
- Treatment device monthly cost: CA$ 27,000 + Tax for a total of $31,043.25/ month or $372,519 for a full year of treatment.
Our promise of transparency:
- We will post updates (clinical milestones, expenses covered, next steps).
- Any funds not used directly for treatment or care will be donated to a Canadian brain cancer charity or used to support another patient in need (we’ll poll donors before deciding).
