Kim's Recovery
Donation protected
Kim is the most fearless and adventurous person I know. Her passion and joy for experiencing all that life has to offer is contagious. She possesses an undeniable gravitational pull and this world would shift entirely if she doesn't get her smile back.
On Friday, March 27th, Kim was riding her motorcycle on the Blue Ridge Parkway in an attempt to get some fresh air and exercise; to find a hike that was not too crowded for the current ordinance. While taking a sharp curve, something caused her to lose control briefly. In attempts to correct, Kim swerved into the opposite lane by accident. The oncoming car saw her, tried to avoid her, and almost did. The car hit her back tire and totaled her beloved Harley Davidson in the process. Luckily Kim did not receive any injuries to her head or neck. She did break a couple of vertebrae, some ribs, and has a hairline fracture in her right hip. The surgery done to avoid paralysis removed a couple of her bones to create a window using needles to keep her spine in alignment. The doctors also had to drill a hole through a lower vertebrae to relieve a blood clot. They have made the decision that it's best to let her hip heal without surgery.
Kim has a long road to recovery ahead. The VA is not currently taking new patients for physical rehabilitation so she will have to be moved to a private rehab center from the hospital until she is strong enough to come home. Kim will need a lot of assistance for round-the-clock care even once she is home.
Due to some local and federal mandates, Kim will not be able to see a familiar face, friend/loved one, until she is home which is heartbreaking for all of us.
In the meantime I am trying to make arrangements for her to be as comfortable as possible once she is home, especially since proper rest and care will be crucial to her recovery.
The entire world is struggling. We are all going through a scary time navigating through COVID-19 impacts so I know not everyone that wants to help is able, but Kim will be recovering from this for years to come and likely be in chronic pain forever. I'm only beginning to wrap my head around the financial demands we are looking at. Under most circumstances we would not accept help in the form of monetary support, but some have insisted they'd like to set up a 'Go Fund Me' and wanted to be clear about Kim's accident and progress. Any contribution to insure Kim is getting the help she needs now in these crucial stages of recovery will be pivotal.
I have only begun to see life through a fraction of Kim's lens, but I know how important her mobility and freedom are to her spirit. Because of this I'm willing to put our pride aside an accept help. Our support system never fails to blow us away. We love you all.
Stay well.
