#YSYFGifts: Health & Education for Women in Ghana
Donation protected
Dear friends,
These past few months, you have seen YSYF unrelentingly support communities in Ghana while the world was under crisis. You have seen us donate hundreds of meals to vulnerable families facing acute food insecurity. You have seen us create opportunities for small businesses struggling to stay afloat by partnering with them to sew masks and manufacture Veronica Buckets. You have seen us train young women on liquid soap making to develop skills for financial independence. You have seen us provide free health education to hundreds of residents on hand-washing and COVID-19 safety. And you have seen us do all of this despite facing the immeasurable financial constraints that come with being a young NGO.
Today, we humbly ask you to give to YSYF. We are a small organization with a big vision, and one of the few NGOs operating in Ghana during the pandemic. We operate from an ethical development framework that allows African people to lead by drawing on local knowledge, building capacity and preserving the dignity of all we help. As our UofT COVID-19 Response Grant comes to an end, however, the future of our organization is uncertain. At this point, we are relying directly on the support of donors like you to stay afloat.
We have launched a GoFundMe campaign called #YSYFGifts with a total goal of $3,000 to be raised by August 31, 2020. We appreciate any amount that you can give. $25 may not be a lot in Canada, but its purchasing power is nearly four times greater in Ghana, so your donation goes a long way.
How will my money be used?
Your donation will be used to provide programming on vocational training and health education to young women in Ghana. Specifically, our short term goal is to establish a vocational training program in the community that will also include free childcare, allowing young women with children to gain skills that they can use to earn a living of their own. This is crucial to breaking cycles of teenage pregnancy. Administrative costs, although disliked by donors, are an inherent part of delivering programming, and some funds will be directed here as well to cover legal registration fees, transportation costs and stipends for Ghana staff. We keep these costs as low as possible by securing partnerships on the ground and relying on the help of Canadian volunteers.

In July 2020, we installed eight Veronica Buckets with foot pedals (hand-washing stations) in clinics, the market, churches, mosques, and other vantage points in the Doryumu community of Ghana.
Earlier in July, we provided free training 20+ women in liquid soap making, allowing them to develop a skill that they could use to earn a living. These liquid soap bottles were distributed to the community along with the Veronica Buckets.
In June, we stimulated local sewing businesses and provided training to young women on making 500 WHO standard masks that we distributed to the community.
In April and May we donated over 900 meals to families facing food insecurity in Doryumu, a remote community in Ghana.
Help us achieve our goal by giving what you can to support! Your donation will not go unappreciated.
