RESCUING RIVER:
River is a sweet - Hound/ Am Staff dog who survived three deliberate gun shots to the head and neck. River was found running at large in a camping area North of Clinton, Iowa two weeks ago. He was transferred to Ambassador Animal Hospital for treatment. Anemic from a flea infestation, drooling blood and infection, the clinic techs first assumed that he had a dental issue or abcess, however, while River was under sedation they were not even able to open his mouth. They proceeded with an X-ray that revealed 3 bullets. One was lodged in the back of his neck; one in his jaw and one that may be in his sinus cavity. The bullet in his neck was successfully removed, however the other two bullets require extensive surgery. One of the bullets has fractured his jaw. River needs to undergo a CT scan and surgery at Iowa State Veterinary School in Ames, Iowa.
Fur Angel's Animal Sanctuary based in Aurora, IL heard about River's tragic case and agreed to accept him into their rescue so that he can receive the treatment he needs. Click HERE for more information about Fur Angel's and their beautiful mission.

Animal Birth Control of Clinton, IA has donated his neuter surgery which will be completed 07/09/2015 and Ambassador Animal Hospital will be completing a full body X-ray at that time to check for any additional injuries. River is on pain medication and is being kept comfortable.
