As many of you know, Candace Fourneau has been hit with a sudden, serious illness this past week. One day she was her normal, bubbly self, and the next in incredible pain and unable to walk because of it. She was admitted to hospital here in Comox, BC and has since been transferred to Victoria for further testing. Candace's hemoglobin, platelet, white cells, etc have dropped, she has inflammation in her nerves and joints, and is undergoing some very uncomforatable tests. Despite having a team of 5 doctors dedicated to her care, they have been unable to pin down a diagnosis for her after nearly a week in the hospital.
Candace works at St. Joe's Hospital in Comox, and her husband Kent is a nurse at Glacier View Lodge. They have 2 children at home, as well as International students that they open their home to. Kent is a dedicated volunteer firefighter with Cumberland Fire and Rescue, and was recently promoted to Lieutenant. This is a family that gives back to their community always. They are involved not only in the International Student program and Fire Department, but with so many activities inside and outside of those whether it is a toy drive, field trip for the local school, or just helping a friend in need. This family gives 365 days a year, and now need us to return the favor!
Canadace does not have any vacation time or sick days owed to her, so they are down to Kent's income alone. They do not know when she will come home, and of course with it being Christmas, it is all that much harder. I know this isn't a great time of year to ask for help, and Kent and Candace won't, so I am asking for them. I have known Kent all my life, and have become good friends with Candace in the last year or so. They are both hard working, family and friend oriented people who would be the first to open their wallets, hearts and homes to any of us. Even if it's only $5, it all adds up!
