Tommy Strong
On behalf of Amie Haskell, it deeply saddens me to share that after an intense rapid battle with his brief diagnosis and recovery from surgery, Tommy Haskell transitioned beyond life on this earth Thursday December 19th, shortly after we posted this gofundme endeavor.
As our family begins the deepest morning we have known in quite some time, we are forever grateful. The beautiful outpouring support, care, contribution, and shared love for this most amazing and beautiful man shows so clearly how he touched all of our lives in deep and meaningful ways.
May his memory be eternal. ❤️ Jodie
Like many, 2019 has been a heavy year on so many levels and this is to be true for the beloved Tommy Haskell.
If you are here reading this, it is more than likely Tommy has touched your life in a way that has filled your heart and soul. For there is not one human that Tommy has met that he has not immediately befriended and leaned in to learn about your life, your love, your family, your interests and held you in each moment as if you are the only person in the room.
Earlier this year, Tommy began with some aches and pains and some weight loss – thinking it was likely age, he overlooked these feelings. Until the summer arrived, where his discomfort increased and his weight loss was more rapid (though he is looking quite svelte), he knew there was something to this and started medical consultation. The consultation and exams presented nothing, so he consciously began to think this was all in his head.
Not the case, shortly after Labor Day the progression of his symptoms worsened and lead him to consult with new medical care providers and immediately had a CAT Scan. This discovered what was thought to be Kidney Cancer in early October, so on to a Renal Specialist in Boston he goes.
With further testing, Tommy was diagnosed with Chondroidsarcoma (a a type of sarcoma that affects the bones and joints) that often presents treatment options, however Tommy's diagnosis was a Rare Type- Dedifferentiated Chondrosarcoma which is much more aggressive, does not respond to treatments and had spread through his abdomen.
The cancer was magnificent in that it was surrounding his kidney and expanded into some other areas and is aggressive. The options in early November now became go home on hospice care with some optional treatments for stability, or a high-risk surgery to remove a majority of the cancer and buy some time. This rare diagnosis has limited data as it is not fully studied because it is so rare.
The medical team and Tommy, being his full of life optimistic self, and fueled by his intense love of life and family elected to have the surgery. There was some success as he began recovery shortly before Thanksgiving, while far from out of the woods. Tommy and his wife Amie and their daughters Sammi and Emma, backed by their entire family and deep-rooted friends began their journey of rest, recovery, hope, love faith and prayers for a miracle.
Home with Amie, who left work on FMLA, to care for his full-time needs, Tommy began daily and weekly immunotherapy treatments.
In loving support at times like these we all wish to take action. As humbled as they are, but as the first to step up and support everyone around them, it is our turn to return the volume of care we have received to help lift this amazing human and beautiful family up in a way to provide peace of mind.
The need is real today. Tommy's quality of life is rapidly declining, in less than 75 days his time is now limited.
Together with your generosity we can collectively raise $10,000 to eliminate the immediate financial stress and worry that comes at times like these, to allow Tommy and Amie the space to love, heal, care, be, share, and recover within the time and space he has in front of him. The monies raised will be used for daily living expenses, travel expenses for treatment and to off set the growing costs of medical care.
So if you are a fellow Ohio State Fan, Red Sox Fan, Beer Drinker, Card Player, Beach Lover, Joker, Family Man, best friend, family, brother – raise up and take action today while Tommy is fighting for his life to support and cradle and love through your donation.
Your contribution will give presence to what is most important for Tommy and Amie and that is the intentional focus of LOVE!
