Kyle Nilson is the 18 year old son of our friend and co-worker, Angela and her husband, Todd Nilson. Kyle was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer called Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma just over 1 year ago. Kyle is a bright, popular, loving young man who just graduated from high school. With everything Kyle and his family have been through the past year, they all continue to keep a positive attitude partly because of their strong faith and tremendous courage. Angela's courage is a daily inspiration to us to never lose faith, never lose hope and to never give up, or like Kyle's personal motto: Just keep swimming.
Earlier this year, Kyle underwent a surgery where they found his cancer had progressed further than they hoped and the surgeons were not able to eradicate it from his body. Since then he has been undergoing chemotherapy treatments to prepare his body for the next phase of battle. This young man is such a fighter!
At the end of June, Kyle and his parents will be traveling to New York to consult with a team of specialists to determine if he is a candidate for another attempt to eradicate the cancer. If Kyle is a candidate, there will be many expenses for this family of 5 as Kyle will have to remain in New York for his recovery for at least a month post-operatively. The proceeds from this account will go towards their expenses: plane tickets for 5, hotel accommodation, meals, etc. If you can, please give to help with their expenses. This is a good family trying to obtain the best possible care for their son and give him the best fighting chance to save his life.
