Next week on July 13th, Kristine will have surgery to remove the upper part of her right lung. Soon after recovery, she will start chemotherapy. The doctor anticipates 3-4 rounds of chemotherapy over the next few months.
Anyone who knows Kristine knows how strong, independent, and resourceful she has always been. She is notorious for making anything happen if she puts her mind to it. Her circle of friends is so large, it amazes me how she is always there to support each and every one whether it is a special occasion, a trying moment, or a random Tuesday afternoon. Kristine gives so much of herself to others through her work, yoga instruction, companionship, and phenomenal ability to listen and offer advice. It is our turn to offer our Leone a little of that Love in return.
I (maria) have been friends with Kristine for 15 years, and never once has she asked for help. However, this time, she is getting our help (whether she likes it or not!). Kristine will not be able to work for some time after surgery, and she is going to have a number of medical expenses. We started Love for Leone to help defray some of the financial burden she will have these next few months. If we can help with some of the medical expenses, it will relieve a great deal of stress for Kristine. She will then be able to rest her mind and focus on her recovery from surgery and treatment.
However, COVID has impacted all of us in one way or another, and for some, finances are tight. If that is the case, please keep Kristine in your heart, mind, and prayers. Time is also a wonderful gift and I am sure that offers to help with food shopping, Whinnie walks, and rides to/from treatment would be welcome with open arms.
Thank you for being there for our Leone... it takes a village, and we know she has one heck of a village behind her.
A note from Kristine.....
I wanted to connect with all of you that are seeing this Go Fund Me....I have had my share of humbling experiences in life, but this one definitely takes the prize! I'll admit, I'm pretty horrified with the whole idea of Go Fund Me, but I am also beyond grateful for the support. I am a lucky girl! So, there are two masses on the upper lobe of my right lung, and as Maria (thank you Maria!) told you, they have determined this to be non-small lung cancer, which has also found its way into a lymph node by my wind pipe. Like Maria said, I will be having surgery to remove the upper lobe and the lymph node. The surgeon said that his goal is to take all of the cancer out so that I never have to deal with it again. I told him "I'm not afraid. Let's do this". Btw, my surgeon is awesome, and having a crush on him has been my lightness in this experience! After this surgery, I will know about further treatment, which will most likely, from what the oncologist already knows, be some chemotherapy. A lot or most of you have kids and/or a spouse, and your love for them is what gives you strength. For me, it's the love I have for all of the people in my life that feeds me. I am full. I'll be taking you all into the OR with me ;). Thank you so much. Now, that that is out of the way, how are you? Sending lots of love and with so much gratitude. :) Kristine
