Support Brooke's Recovery After Tragic Accident

Have you ever looked at your phone while it’s ringing and thought to yourself, why is this person calling me? Especially when you don’t talk often and it’s at an odd hour…

From my experience, when that happens, it’s usually not a good thing.

This is what I experienced this morning around 8 AM.

At first, I didn’t answer the phone because I had a gut feeling that something was wrong…

Then my wife came running out from the other room with tears in her eyes as she is getting news from our friend Alana, my sister’s best friend.

My sister was involved in a nearly fatal car accident last night around 9 PM. I will spare the details of how it happened, but by the grace of God, my sister survived.

No drugs or alcohol were involved. The other party involved did not have a driver’s license and they are ok.

Please do not drive a motorized vehicle if you do not have a license!

Anyway…

My sister is stable but in critical condition.

Because of the speed at which the accident happened, there was so much force that my sister‘s face went through the windshield of the vehicle and then came back inside the vehicle once the car settled…

As I’m sure you can imagine, this left her face somewhat mangled and is now requiring plastic surgery.

She also can’t walk because she has several broken bones, and it is going to be a long and painful road to recovery. Mentally and physically.

My sister is a hard working police officer and helps keep our city and streets safe. She serves faithfully and loves what she does.

I feel that there has been a lot of evil in the world recently, which is very unfortunate. I also see tragedies happen like this to other people from time to time and most of the time I think to myself, “Wow. That is very unfortunate, and I will pray for that family.”

What else can I do? It sucks.

Rarely do I ever imagine this happening to someone in my own family…

It makes me sad because I feel like there is nothing that I can do except pray for her healing.

Other than praying, the only other thing I can think of to help the situation is to ease some of the financial burden that she is going to experience from an accident of this magnitude.

Yes, she has medical and auto insurance, but it does not cover everything, and as I mentioned above, it is going to be a long road to recovery.

She would never ask for help like this, and she does not have social media. It is definitely hard for me to ask as well because if you know me, I rarely ask for anything.

What I’m asking for today is a donation to help ease the financial burden of medical and physical therapy expenses alongside taking an extended period of time off of work. I pray that the donations make a small difference in her life moving forward.

$35,000 seems like a massive goal, but I also know that many hands makes light work.

Please pray for Brooke and her husband, Eric Schwausch.
