Hello my name is Leah Boldt, and I am from Canada. have had the honour of getting to know and deeply love this beautiful human. She is young, and so full of dreams for their future that have been stolen from them. I first connected with Nagham through her now husband, Mohammed. When I learned his story. He was in university nearing graduation, had already started a digital marketing business that was growing, and had his whole bright life ahead of him. And suddenly he didn’t, and lost his office, his home, friends, family…. As I prepared for my own son to start university, the thought of his future being ripped away in an instant broke my heart in a unique way. He is thoughtful, hard working, dedicated to his family, and has shown me love from afar, and while I wish I met him over better circumstances, I will forever be grateful our hearts found each other. I am officially their Canadian “mom.”
And then along came Nagham. I remember Mohammed telling me about this girl. How nervous he was. How much he loved her. And so she became a part of the family too. They were married in the midst of the most trying circumstances, and I can truly say, that no matter how much has been taken from them, love will never be. And she is so witty, so kind, and I’m so lucky to love her too. Nagham is so talented at art, and uses her skills to create amazing designs for their Etsy store, Fekra Global. She learned English from watching American shows like Friends, and has helped me practice Arabic as I’ve tried (abysmally) to learn. She makes me laugh, loves animals, wants to start a family….They were surprised to learn she was expecting a few months ago. As any mother does, the fight for survival has intensified to protect her unborn child. While they were thrilled at the idea of loving this new baby, they are also terrified of the situation they are in and what it will mean for him/her. I can’t fathom facing this situation for nearly 2 years, and then finding out you’re pregnant. To go through morning sickness and any all the stages of pregnancy while desperate to survive and witness atrocities beyond comprehension.
i have seen them pack up and move through the Gaza Strip more times than I can count, living in tents, in broken buildings… and not once have they ever complained. They do not want charity. They have worked so hard at their online store using their skills to create goods to support themselves. Because that is all they want. To be free, safe, and to be self sufficient.
Because of the insane prices of food as things got more and more scarce, they are no longer able to buy food. Last time I figured out the cost of an 10 kg bag of flour, it was $600 CAD, not including that any money they receive has high fees to access. And the flour they have bought has had maggots and sand mixed in.
It was just my birthday and I am in need of nothing. The ONLY thing I want is to know my friends/family are safe. What has happened to them is wrong. I can’t stop the situation, but I can do what I can for this family.
All funds raised go towards getting them safely out of the area they need to evacuate from, and providing them the necessities they need to survive, specifically a tent, living supplies, food to save her from starvation.
In their words…
The situation is very tragic.. I pray to God that the war ends and that we do not move and emigrate to the south.. The occupation is forcing us to move to the south again and they are planning to wipe out Gaza City and destroy what remains of the houses. I am afraid of losing my house.. I am afraid that we will be displaced because we do not have money and we do not have tents and the weather is very very hot and there is no room for anyone in the south. All of Rafah and Khan Younis are in the middle of the Strip and now they are forcing all of Gaza City to move to the center
Israeli artillery shelling targets Al-Sabra neighborhood.
Last night I lost my friends and we don't know who we will lose next
They are pressuring us and killing us so that we will move to the south, but we do not have any of the means to move. We want your help so that we can leave this neighborhood so that we can go to the south of the Gaza Strip if we are forced to do so.
Every donation helps save our lives.
