Please consider a donation to Dalby Farm, as we navigate these uncharted waters in the face of the COVID-19 crisis, which has wiped out our Spring 2020 School Tours & Birthday Party bookings income... and the entire Summer :(
We aren't ones to really ask for this kind of assistance but I wanted to make this an option to anyone who felt they were willing and able to offer support.
I wanted to take a moment to say that we are grateful for all those on the front lines of this crisis, from the selfless healthcare workers to the hardworking, patient store clerks. Where would we be without you?! We see the disarray so many of our friends, loved ones, neighbors and coworkers are facing. We hate to direct attention away from the big picture and the biggest problems but like many others, our options are limited. This gofundme is a loving daughter's effort to soften the blow of one of the worst years the farm will have seen in its entire existence, for a family who has been facing a multitude of struggles of their own..
The farm is usually able to pay for itself. To lose this income is devastating and poses many questions/concerns as to how certain ends will be met. Anything you can do to help will be monumental.
I also wanted to say that we are devastated to not be seeing our students and teachers! Working with them every Spring gives us the motivation to keep going. It matters to us that kids have these meaningful interactions with animals and nature early on in life so they may become thoughtful protectors of their environment. We have been around long enough to know that these children DO take life long lessons away from their time on our farm. So many come back year after year for summer learning or even now as counselors!
It also matters to us that we can continue to be a lifelong home for not only rare farm breeds, but animals in general. We take pride in giving each and every creature love and attention. It is a very difficult endeavor we have taken on because it's not what you would call a 'mainstream' effort. We don't make headlines, we don't go "viral", we're just here chugging away in the background- hoping parents and schools see the value in our offerings and appreciate the positive impact it can have on their children's lives and the future of our environment. We want to do it! We hope to be able to for many years to come- but farms don't run on dreams and wishes, and our animals can't live off of smiles....
Thanks for taking the time to read this. If you are not able to donate, a share to a friend or social media page would be equally productive. Stay healthy, safe, and take care <3
More about us:
Since the early 2000’s, Dalby Farm in Scituate, MA has been working on a difficult mission: Educate the community about the importance of preserving rare farm breeds and encourage environmental conservation.
Home to many rare farm breeds ranging from rare poultry to livestock, each season the family owned and operated farm offers multiple educational programs and events. A popular spot for school field trips, birthday parties and summer learning programs, children are given positive experiences with plants and animals in hopes that they will carry a new appreciation for nature with them into the world after they leave.
Unfortunately, the farm cannot run on passion alone. New England has its fair share of inclement weather, which forces the farm to close down public offerings for nearly 6 months of the year. Revenue streams are limited during the Fall and Winter months but the price of feed and general upkeep remains consistent and overwhelming.
To make matters more complicated, the COVID-19 crisis has put a grinding halt to the traditional school year. As a result the hundreds of children that usually visit us on their school field trips will most likely not be coming this year. Our Spring income has all but disappeared nearly overnight.
The honest truth is the farm basically breaks even most years- so to lose this revenue is devastating. We believe in what we do and overlook the many sacrifices this endeavor asks of us... But animals don't just stop needing to eat, or have their routine checkups because the schools had to close and the economy had to shut down (even for the best of reasons!).
Without government funding, a non-profit status or even regular donations, our family needed to create an opportunity for supporters near and far to help keep the farm running. If you are so willing, please consider a donation to help us brave this unforeseen, damaging situation we are in.
Or, visit DalbyFarm.com to enroll your child in our Summer Learning Program(s) in mid/late July, or book a Birthday Party (probably for July and beyond as a realistic timeline)
Most importantly we hope you are all staying healthy through this trying time. We are all in this together.
