Allison & David Sansoucie's Medical Journey

We wanted to take a moment to thank you all for supporting Allison and David through this very trying and uncertain year. With your help, Allison has been able to provide David with the medical supplies, the necessities he needs, and keep their home secure. Things are very difficult but with your support, Allison is navigating this journey the best she can. Over the past year, your contributions have made a profound impact and removed a great amount of additional stress from Allison’s situation. We are deeply grateful!

We know that life has been unimaginably altered for many of us, and we continue to look forward to a brighter future and hope for the best for all. We would like to provide you with an annual update on David’s health and well-being.

David was home for five days in late June; unfortunately, it proved to be an impossible transition and was unsafe for him. He was readmitted to the rehabilitation center where he is now. David has had another kidney surgery, several falls, pneumonia, and sepsis in the last two months. He is exhausted and sleeps a great deal. Visitors are still not allowed due to Covid-19, but the nurse is very kind and will put David on a FaceTime call with Allison once a week. He does not always remember her name, but he does recognize her face.

Phone calls can be tricky because David thinks he needs to rush off to go fishing or head to a photo shoot. He spends the days convinced he is out on a boat or producing something for a client. Most of the time, he can only speak in the form of “word salads,” where nothing makes any sense. It’s incredibly sad and confusing for everyone. David needs a more secure center since he doesn’t understand the safety aspects of his care and he is entirely reliant upon skilled nursing in all aspects of life. The family is currently searching for a long-term memory care center. Allison's insurance and Medicare have been exhausted. Unfortunately, Medicaid is considered a "poor payer" and severely restricts the care David can receive. David will need another kidney surgery in the coming weeks. Once he is recovered, he will need to be transferred to a new rehabilitation center.

Though this unimaginable journey is incredibly difficult, the Sansoucie Family still holds on to hope that things will get better at some point. Again, thank you all so very much for your support and contributions! We wish you all the best!
