Most of you know, some of you may not, my 2 younger sisters were on vacation in Lake Tahoe on August 17th and as they were walking back from taking a hike and swimming and were suddenly hit by a car. Haley was thrown down a hill and Megan landed on large rocks.
Haley had a sprained ankle, very large swollen bruised leg and some scrapes and bruises. She was thankfully ok.
Megan was airlifted to the same trauma hospital as Haley. She was initially found unconscious and in critical condition. She had a fracture to her skull, and her femur went up into her hip and shattered, along with numerous lacerations.
Megan had a craniotomy right away, then 2 days later had an extensive hip surgery. We are still in the hospital at this moment but she has been making progress. After 1 week in the ICU she was transferred to the orthopedic floor. She is currently able to take very small steps and walks with the assistance of a walker and is improving with every walk and every day.
All of the trauma, neuro, ortho, and respiratory surgeons and nurses keep saying how impressed they are that she is even awake and improving so fast. It truly is a miracle that she is alive and so motivated to get better.
SO-we are hoping she will be coming back home to Chicago soon as she desperately wants to get outta Reno! But when she comes home, she will still have a very long road of rehab and recovery.
She will not be able to return to work for an extended period of time, so will be losing income and gaining medical bills. We want to show her all the love and support we can to also help her and JR financially. Every little bit helps!
They both are unaware we are doing this and probably would tell me not to, but I know they will be so grateful, relieved, and appreciated once they receive this help.
