Derek's Recovery

Hey everyone,

We have reached our goal of $10,000.00, but anything over will still be contributed to his recovery as needed. Left over money will be donated once he is able to return to work.

On Sunday July 31st, 2022, Derek Van Bakel was involved in a motorcycle accident while out for a ride with his son. He was the only one involved in the accident. While his body is mostly unscathed, less some bruising and scrapes, he did unfortunately suffer a severe concussion as well as several brain bleeds and a small fracture in his neck. At this time, we are not sure of what recovery time will look like, as brain injuries can be difficult to assess.

Derek has always been an extremely hard working individual, consistently working as much as possible to provide for his family. He has always been the first to jump up and help when someone needed it.

On behalf of the Van Bakel family, we are starting this go fund me to help out with some financial support throughout this tough time ahead. Due to the fact that he is self employed, Derek does not have insurance to help support him through his recovery time. Donations received will help with the everyday costs incurred throughout his recovery period. We are not sure of what at home care may look like at this time, but we are expecting that he will need assistance for a while once out of the hospital. His wife Sandra Desgagnes will be using this money to help pay the mortgage, upkeep on bills, gas for driving to and from doctors visits and food in the upcoming months.

Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated. Any left over money will be donated.
