Hello, my name is Jim McKee. I’m 65 years old, and I’m currently battling end-stage COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). I was diagnosed with stage 4 COPD, and my lung capacity is down to just 14%. My doctors gave me a prognosis of 5 years to live, which was 4 years ago. Sadly, I am no longer eligible for a lung transplant, and I am unable to afford any kind of insurance to help cover my medical and end-of-life costs.
I’m writing today to ask for help with something I never imagined I’d need to ask for—help to cover my funeral expenses. My family and I do not have the financial means to manage these costs, and it breaks my heart to know my wife and daughter will have to shoulder that burden while already coping with the emotional toll of my illness.
The funeral homes I’ve spoken to estimate the cost at about $10,000, which is what I’m hoping to raise. This would cover a small, dignified service, so that my family can focus on grieving and healing, rather than worrying about how to pay for it all.
I have always been a proud man who didn’t like asking for help. I’ve been there for others during their times of need, and it’s incredibly humbling and difficult to find myself in this position. But I’ve come to realize that sometimes, we have no choice but to lean on the kindness of others when we’re facing something as overwhelming as this.
If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean the world to me and my family. I can’t express enough how grateful we are for your kindness, love, and support during this incredibly challenging time.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and for any help you can provide.
With deepest gratitude,
Jim McKee.
