Duke was involved in a scuffle with another dog on 4th of July. While he didn’t suffer any significant bite wounds he did have a few small punctures. The small punctures quickly healed over trapping in a pretty nasty infection. He saw his primary vet and was given antibiotics and an anti inflammatory. After a few days the medication was obviously failing him and the infection was spreading. He saw a second vet where they informed us that Duke was in stage 3 kidney failure, meaning he only has 20% kidney function, along with fighting this infection. He was given fluids and sent home to see another vet first thing the next morning. Monday morning Duke was taken to the local animal hospital to have surgery to remove the multiple abscess’s that had formed. He will be in the animal hospital for the next few days while they fight to get a head of this awful infection before they can start a course of treatment for his kidney function.
Duke is currently staying overnight recovering from surgery while they monitor his fluids and kidney function. His owners have been out of work since March because of the pandemic and asking for help is the last thing they want to do. Dukes recovery is the most important to them and appreciate any donations towards his healing.
