Emergency: House Fire Fundraiser

Sad news: Major House Fire

On Tuesday, (11/16) our dear neighbors suffered a catastrophic house fire in Longfellow which was a complete loss of their home and personal belongings. There were at least 8 fire trucks that responded to the fire. Luckily, all humans and dogs escaped the fire . The firefighters were heroic in their efforts, but sadly, the rental duplex which housed 2 families is a total loss. They have temporary housing which is not sustainable. Our block is so sad for this family. They have been such a positive asset to our community. While you would not wish this on any family - these families (including 2 high school students, one elementary student and one college student) truly did not deserve this unfortunate and devastating disaster. We are setting up this fundraiser to assist them while they try to manage during these extremely challenging times. If you are able, please consider lending a hand with a generous donation to support these families. Thank you!

Update (11/21).  The community response has been strong and the set goal of 10,000 has been met. Thank you!!! The reach of the support network has recently been expanded and so it seems appropriate to adjust the goal   In light of the strong response, the lack of other family funding sources and the assessment of trying to relocate 2 families in Minneapolis which has high housing costs- the goal is being increased to 15,000. Thank you for the support.

Update (11/20): I have recently learned of another fire this week that affected a family in Seward. So sad for their loss and hope they are getting support. No more tragedy like this please for our community.

Update (11/19) : original goal was set at $1234 as an arbitrary number to start the fundraiser. The reality is that the actual amount needed is much higher -especially with the 2 families involved.  Goal amount was adjusted to $10,000. Personal savings were lost in the fire.  Also, the availability of affordable housing in Minneapolis is limited.
