I am a proud native of one of largest metropolitans in this country, Atlanta; and grew-up in one its most economically-challenged communities. I was reared by my Mother, and like many other single-parent homes across America, it was sometimes hard for her to make ends meet. With this serving as my canvass for the life society felt I should have, I had two clear choices: I could paint the same picture or take the words of Robert Frost to heart and use the road the less traveled. Gratefully, because of the wisdom and knowledge instilled in me by positive mentors and roles models, I was able to take the road less traveled.
Although only 18 years-of-age, I have had the opportunity to exposed to so much. While my professions may have shifted as I have matriculated through life, one thing has always remained constant: my love for community and my drive to assure that communities thrive by placing their families first. Before getting directly involved in politics, I worked as a non-profit professional. During my tenure in various capacities at organizations, I was able to serve thousands of families in hundreds of developing communities. While I acknowledge that I’ve made great strides for myself and for those around me, I never fail to acknowledge that I have a lot of more work to do and a lot more to learn as I develop as a young man and as we develop as a nation.
I was excited to had been recently accepted into the prestigious Congressional Black Cacacus Intsitute's 2015 Boot Camp taking place July 19-25 in Washington, D.C., a highly-acclaimed leadership development program designed to generate a deep pool of political professionals who are well-qualified to lead the development of public and private sector policies, political campaigns, or issue advocacy.
The tuition for the program is $5,000 - which includes lodging, meals, an extensive, hands-on program, and so much more! Every single donation will count -- I hope that you'll chip in!
