Children with special needs in Zanzibar
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Terhi and this year I celebrate my 50th birthday. Instead of having a get together with family and friends (coming from the UK and Finland), I’ve decided to do something memorable. I want to volunteer my time and give back to others.
Volunteering in Africa has been something I’ve felt I wanted to do for over 10 years now and as this is my 50th year, I’ve decided now is the time.
Therefore in November I will be volunteering to support special-needs children for two weeks in Zanzibar, off the East Coast of Africa.
My passion in life is rehabilitation; my occupation is rehabilitating traumatic brain injury patients and those with neurological conditions in the UK. Therefore, I’m keen to transfer my skills to my placement and help these students develop life skills reinforced with my rehab experience.
I'm travelling with the support and guidance of International Volunteer HQ from New Zealand and so I’m trying to raise some funds along the way. While part of the funds will cover some the travel costs, the majority will go to supporting these children with exactly what they need. While I am on my placement, I will be able to first hand, see what they need and where the money should be spent. Zanzibar is a poor country so the British Pound goes a VERY long way!
Therefore, I am politely asking for any donations that can be made to help create a huge impact for children trying to make their way in life.
My commitment is to ensure the money gets spent improving their education and their lives in the best way possible.
I have been advised not to donate money to the school, but once I'm there and I have seen what is most needed, I can buy supplies supporting the local economy. This is something the charity insists helps even more Zanzibaris (The name of the Zanzibar people).
I am VERY grateful for every pound you can donate to help me, help the children in Zanzibar.
Thank you so much,
Terhi
