Britton "B" Swaine B-STRONG!!

Story

Hello everybody! Thank you for taking the time to read about our family friend, Britton Swaine, who is known by those who love him as "B"!!!! This beautiful young man is the son of Britt and Lisa Swaine. B's mother, known as Lisa Thomas back then, became friends with me while attending Beaumont Middle School in the 7th grade.  Once our friendship began we never looked back! We have seen each other through finishing high school and college, begin our careers and even worked together at one point, start our own families, and shared all of life's moments the past 35 years!! Although we may live 13 hours apart, we continue to visit each other yearly and her family is my family as mine is hers. We are family!!!!When Lisa and Britt got married as young adults they went on to create 3 kiddos of their own. All boys... cute, loving, ambitious,  and very much the light of their lives! I have been blessed to watch these boys grow into wonderful young men. Each one with their own personalities and wishes for themselves and their own families one day!!!  Let me share with you more about B.....In the fall of 2017, while attending college on a football scholarship at St. Francis University in Joliet, Illinois, B was experiencing what he thought was mono. At that time, he was going through night sweats, extreme fatigue, and had the inability to concentrate. By November of 2017, B was unable to complete his classwork and due to feeling poorly was no longer playing football.  B returned home to his parents unsure what his life's plan would be.  His parents were supportive and encouraging for him to begin a new path. B had no idea what he would be facing. After months of depleted energy, loss of interest, and uncertainty about his future, B began attending Westside Christian Church with his parents. (B's parents dedicated him as an infant at their church during his christening.)  B accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and brought two friends with him who also committed their lives to Christ! On 08/26/18, B was baptized at Westside Christian Church in the presence of his family! (See the glorious pictures below!)In August of 2018, B went to the doctor after disclosing to his parents that he had swollen areas on his body and he was experiencing pain. The doctor ruled out a few possible medical conditions through testing and became focused on two large, palpable lymph nodes.  An ultrasound,  CAT scan, and PET scan were conducted and a lymph node was removed for biopsy. At this point, blood cancer was likely the condition and B and family received the results a couple of weeks later.  On 09/11/18, the results from the biopsy confirmed that B had Hodgkin's Lymphoma which was either Stage 3 or Stage 4. A bone marrow test confirmed B was in Stage 3. Sadly, at this point, Stage 3 was something to be thankful about. Consultation with the oncologist occurred on 09/17/18 with surgery on 09/19/18 to insert the port in B's chest which connects to the jugular. It is through this port that the chemo enters his body.  On 10/05/18, B had his 1st round of chemo. He will continue to receive chemo treatment every 2 weeks. He is prescribed anti-nausea medication to help prevent his vomiting and Hydration infusions have been added to his regimen along with steroids.  B is a gentle giant who stands at 6'5" with a  regular weight of 220 pounds. He has lost a total of 30 pounds as of this date.  The good news in this situation is that Hodkin's Lymphoma is treatable and curable! The cancer treatment that B will endure will be exhausting and brutal for B. He is a very strong person to go through all of this and his faith is giving him the courage to fight this battle! Britt and Lisa are with B at all of his medical appointments and miss work as needed to be by B's side through this journey. It is our hope that along with the many, many, many prayers for B's full recovery and healing and the prayers for strength and comfort for his parents, that there is a bit more you can do. B's treatment plan involves 6 months of chemotherapy. Keep in mind that EACH of these 12 chemo sessions is 6 hours long and costs  $16,000!!!!!The family has bills on the way for the medical care that B has received thus far.  As you can imagine, the costs of these multiple surgeries and scans, and ongoing testing will create a tremendous amount of debt for this family. They are doing everything possible to keep their son alive! Britt, Lisa, Josh, Matthew, and B are loved by so many people who have witnessed their commitment to one another, their friends, community, and beyond all else, their faith!!! The time has come for them to receive the blessings of support from others in this great time of need. Unfortunately, most families have loved ones who have struggled with cancer and know the financial burden of health care costs on a  family. Think of your son, your children, your brother, your grandson, your grandparents and take that love and hope and pay it forward. Please contribute to the Britton "B " Swaine, B Strong  Fundraiser!
