Yayasan Peduli Kemanusiaan (YPK) Bali is a not-for-profit organisation which was founded in 2001 to provide rehabilitation for Balinese people who have a disability, and who are unable to access formal health care facilities. Clients of YPK receive rehabilitation, education as well as ongoing psychological and emotional support free of charge.
My name is Carola Sägesser from Switzerland and I‘m an occupational therapist. I am staying at YPK for three months and my main focus is helping them improving the occupational therapy and to include it in the daily rehabilitation and education at YPK.
In 2009, YPK Bali expanded its services, establishing an informal education program for children with disabilities, and also a community based mobile rehabilitation service. YPK also has a program called BaliRungu which tests the hearing of children and aims to ensure their maximum ability to learn. Furthermore, the education program staffed by three teachers provides education and life skills training for children with disabilities. The mobile service includes a community-based rehabilitation program staffed by a local therapist, and an informal education program staffed by a local teaching assistant.
YPK Bali has helped more than 99,000 people across Bali and is well established and highly regarded as a Centre of therapy and rehabilitation excellence. YPK is continuing to expand its services to have a significant social impact on improving the livelihoods with a highly integrated, unique and innovative program.
The access to therapy is based on donations, so every help will be welcome and will help one adult or one child in Bali get the therapy they need and deserve. At the moment, YPK is in need for two laptops at the education center to support informal education programs.
