Hello, and thank you coming across this page. To ask for money for personal use is really out of my character, however, we appreciate any kind of assistance that is offered to help fund the recurring bills from Yoyo’s eye surgeries (2).
Yoyo is a 9 year old black and white Shih Tzu. I adopted him almost 2 years ago from a neglected home situation where he was verbally abused. Since he has found his forever home with me, he really is the best furry companion I could ask for. He’s quiet, loyal, and easily excited over treats, meals and outside time. He trails me around the house as I’m doing mundane things and loves being in the same room as me at all times. He especially loves chin rubs and being held like a baby.
In July 2020, he was diagnosed with “deep corneal ulcer, right eye”, which required emergent surgery for a corneal graft placement over his eye and a post operative course that includes around the clock eye drops and an ointment. Fast forward to 4 months after that surgery, on November 9, I noticed his behavior shift from being spunky to lethargic, his perky uplifted tail dragging between his legs and have turned down all his favorite treats (cheese, ham). After that noticed, his grafted eye with increased drainage, that later turned into thick pus, the inability to close that eyelid that then turned painful to the touch.
On November 10, I immediately took him to his ophthalmologist, and diagnosed him as “blunt force trauma”, meaning he hit himself on something so hard that caused his eye to erupt. He was likely more prone to this because of the grafted eye site causing a deficit in his vision. The only option at this point is “enucleation of the right eye” (aka removal) to prevent any ongoing infections and alleviate any more pain to the eye for him.
3.5 hours later, he came out of surgery and is back home under the good care of his owners and we are thankful for every step and decision made along the way. With his eye being removed altogether, he will no longer be prone to any more injury or pain that he has been in-and-out of since July.
With that, comes the ongoing expenses of his medical bills for the day of surgery and his after care, including medications and follow up appointments.
For those who know the pleasure of my little old man Yoyo, his adorable eye(s) are enough to break your heart and the look he gives is begging for attention, although if look or attempt to touch, will growl back. But he remains lovable and just wants to be loved, and given plenty of chin rubs.
I don’t expect much, but any bit offered, especially through this financially challenging times for many, will go such a long way for us and know it is appreciated and will be put to good use.
Thank you,
M and L
