Hello! I’m Josh!
Recent college graduate.
Former college athlete.
And a Youth With A Mission.
The purpose of this letter is to ask you to join with me in pursuing an opportunity that God has put on my heart to round out my education – Discipleship Training School. See, college taught me a lot, but to make a true impact in the workplace and as an adult, I feel called to be specifically trained and equipped to fulfill my part in the Great Commission through specialized spiritual training. Truthfully, I’ve felt God putting this on my heart for a long while, but my fear of losing my identity as an athlete had me pouring my heart into other places.
You could call this a Jonah moment - a calling I always knew was on my life but kept trying to put off. But as my dad says, "God always gets his man." So here I am: Humbled. Stripped of my identity. Very much not a professional football player. Probably in need of a haircut. And about 50% away from my tuition goal of $12,000. I’ve saved $6,000 on my own so far!
Where and when is Discipleship Training School?
Youth With a Mission (YWAM) Discipleship Training School in Byron Bay, Australia - a journey of faith and a sacrifice of stability as I travel across the world to seek God’s voice. My session begins September 2019 and ends March 2020.
What does Discipleship Training School teach?
DTS begins with three months of Lectures. As a young adult, you are purposefully removed from your daily life by traveling far from home and away from your comfort zone. During this time I will grow in my relationship with God as each week I seek His voice through lectures, community, local outreach, small group time, personal discipleship, prayer and worship.
But why Byron Bay, Australia? That sounds more like a vacation…
Byron Bay is located on the East coast of Australia. It’s known as a very “spiritually open” place that attracts a lot of backpackers and surfers. Initially, my outreach will begin with events like Schoolies and Impact Summer to witness to and connect with travelers and surfers. While it sounds like a vacation, DTS in Byron Bay encourages you to connect with young people who often searching the world without knowing their need for God.
Ok, but what else?
Outreach. Being stationed in Australia offers Outreach opportunities to many parts of the world that need God’s love most - Indonesia, East Timor, Papua New Guinea, Cambodia and Thailand. Some teams have even gone to Turkey and India!
And how does this help your career?
Proverbs 3:6 says “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” As I reset the compass of my life away from being an athlete to serving athletes, I feel that God is calling me to be a vessel in my workplace. I am called to complete this program to learn how to listen for His voice and how to meet the spiritual needs of people wherever they are in life. I truly believe this training will prepare me Spiritually, Mentally, and Physically.
How can I help?
I have already raised 50% of my $12,000 goal on my own through working and saving; however, time is running short with just 2 months until September. I am continuing to work and save, but still need $6,000 to cover the full tuition, which pays for food, schooling, travel costs, textbooks, etc. Your investment in me will result in a highly-trained, highly-motivated young adult who will enter the workplace ready to serve people and God.
