Youth on a Mission Bringing the Gospel to Kenya

Dear Friends and Family,

I am very excited about my journey to Kenya this summer (July 10-21) with the mission department of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC). We will be ministering to a community of poor villages 3-4 hours outside of Nairobi and winning lives to Christ. Our goal is to raise $45,000 for the construction of a water well, a church, a daycare facility, and a center teaching vocational skills to young girls and women who are victims of domestic abuse. Any financial contribution on your part, large or small, will be a blessing! The people in these areas are impoverished and will be blessed by the projects and the supplies that we will provide. We pray that we will help the village achieve sustainable economic development to benefit their lives. All monies raised will go towards the projects, there are no administration fees.

Water Well Construction: $20,000

The climate in the villages is extremely dry. This area is called " the back side of the desert". The people in these villages live in mud houses and do not have regular access to clean drinking water. With the construction of a water well, the villagers will have a source of clean water and will be able to farm and raise animals. The villagers also will be able to spend less time traveling to find clean water for cooking and cleaning, allowing more time for children to be in school. This clean water source will also improve hygiene, health and overall community development.

Church Construction: $10,000

The villages are extremely isolated, and until recently the people have not heard about God! Since the COGIC church has begun ministering there, the good news of Jesus Christ is spreading!! Currently, the villagers are having church under a tarp they tie to a tree to block the sun while they sit on rocks for chairs. We will purchase a piece of land, construct a modest church building, and buy pews, chairs, and Bibles!

Vocational Training Daycare Center Construction: $10,000

The COGIC church houses a Vocational Training program for young girls that have been rescued from Forced Child Marriages. While the young girls are attending training, free childcare is available for their children. The structure for the childcare has been deemed unsafe. Our mission team will build a new daycare structure to house the 22 babies and children who reside in the daycare while their mothers undergo vocational training to support their economic independence.

Supplies: $5,000

We will purchase the following supplies to help with daily living, health, nutrition, and vocational training:

1. Baby supplies- diapers, formula, toys and stuffed animals, etc.

2. Supplies for vocational training for hair care: hair care products/tools, barber tools, hair braiding and weaving supplies,

3. Supplies for vocational training for fashion design- fabrics, needles, scissors, seam rippers, sketch erasers, notebooks, stick pins, safety pins

4. Supplies for vocational training- manicure-pedicure sets, crotched hooks, wire cutters, cases of glass beads of all colors, yarn of all colors

5. Office supplies: manila folders, folders with pockets, ink pens, staplers, tape and dispensers

6. Health Care supplies; toothpaste and toothbrushes, deodorant, over-the-counter medications, reading glasses

7. Clothing- skull caps, warm clothes, bras, and underwear for women and men

8. House supplies- flashlights, torch lights, lighters, solar-powered devices- there is no electricity in the villages and the people use coal to keep warm and cook
