Youth leader To Negate 20 year prison sentence

My name is Harold Doby, III. I am the only child of Cynthia Walker .  I am a proud native Augustan who grew up in our beloved city and I attended and graduated from Augusta University. I am honored to have been a member of the 2012-2014 Jaguars Basketball team. I’m now 31 years of age and the father of two young, amazing girls who are 13 and 7 years old. I've always been a huge supporter of my community and giving back to those in need. I host annual events like toy giveaways , winter coat drives, canned food drives and I sponsor trips to take young kids to NBA games that will never have the opportunity to experience anything like that.

I am writing to everyone who knows me and know my heart and my character for help today. On January 23, 2018, I made a mistake and I need your help. I want to share my story with you. I was leaving a bar one evening when a group of several men angrily approached my vehicle, opened my vehicle door and threaten bodily harm to me. They accused me of attacking one of their friends from an earlier incident and I feared for my life and my safety.  I was not involved in this attack. Out of fear, I fired one shot from my gun and I had no intentions of harming anyone. I was protecting myself and I have a license to carry my weapon. One person was injured and survived the shot I fired. I had a clean record before this incident and had not been in any trouble with law enforcement. I was sentenced for a crime that occured only out of self-defense on October 6, 2022 to 20 years probation. This 20-year probation sentence would allow me to remain and continue to be a productive citizen in our our community and an active father to my children while promising to remain an upstanding and law abiding citizen. There was some relief for me and my family to hear this sentence. However, this probation comes with one stipulation. The stipulation is that I pay $155,000 in restitution to the victims within 12 months from my sentencing. If I am unable to pay the restituion within this time frame, the 20-year probation sentence will become a 20-year prison term for aggravated assault and aggravated battery. This is a case where justice has not been served for all and I was acting lawfully in self-defense. I was not able to share my whole story in a court of law, but I am sharing it with you now.  As a first offender, I have been given the opportunity to remain unincarcerated if I can pay the restitution. If you believe in me and everything I stand for and believe in 2nd chances, I am asking for your help. I want to continue to be community supporter, help our youth and coach my beloved sport of basketball as I did while fighting this case and before. The judge has ordered something that I cannot do alone. My grandmother stood by me while fighting this case and I lost her just two weeks before the sentencing. I know that she is looking down on me from her heavenly home and would encourage me to continue to push for what I believe in. My mom is my best friend and my most unconditional supporter and advocate. It's just me my mom and beautiful girls and I want to be there for all of them. I'm reaching out to y’all for help. Any help that you feel that you can provide is appreciated more than words can express. No amount is to small or big from any of you. $1 come help if you see this Donate $1

Thank you in advance and most sincerely,
Harold Doby III
