Please join us in rallying to help an Indianapolis hockey family through a very difficult time. On Saturday, January 18th, Carson Rainey and his father Gary were traveling on I-70 early in the morning through rain and snow to make it to Carson's 15U AAA game in Pittsburgh. While passing through the Dayton area, control of the vehicle was lost and Carson was ejected onto the pavement at high speed.
When help arrived on the scene Carson was transported to Dayton Children's Hospital where it was determined that he broke 3 vertebrae, lacerated his spleen and a kidney. The lasting extent of his spinal cord damage is yet to be determined. He is currently able to move all of his limbs but has not regained sensation in one of his feet. His internal injuries are expected to return to normal function.
Carson is expected to remain in Dayton until doctors determine that it's safe to move him back to a hospital in the Indy area. The Rainey family is temporarily living out of a hotel near the hospital. Their vehicle was lost in the accident.
The Rainey family is a model of what a youth sports family should be. Gary has served on several youth hockey boards throughout Carson's career and has volunteered countless hours since his son began playing. Carson's mother Christi volunteers at every Indy Fuel ECHL home game to raise money for Carson's current association, the IYHA Jr Fuel.
Please join us in financially supporting the Rainey's through a terribly unfortunate accident that all youth sports families dread hearing about. Your donations will immediately provide for their day to day expenses in Dayton and help secure a replacement vehicle. The next hurdle will be significant medical bills from emergency transportation, surgery and ICU care. Once his internal injuries heal and his spine is safe for activity, he is set to endure months of physically and financially demanding rehabilitation with the hopes of returning to full physical function.
Carson and his parents thank you in advance for your support. The hockey community is the best in sports when it comes to supporting our teammates and opponents in their time of need. Please consider donating whatever your family can afford to help out one of our own.
