Update on Repatriation & Stalled Recovery

October 1rst

Yes, there's been a gap since I arrived at Kelowna International Airport at 7 p m. on January 30th, 2025. Basically, everything has happened and almost nothing has happened in terms of my recovery. Just adjusting to the shocking cost of living including housing has consumed most of my attention and effort. I can walk better now but so far have not been able to access gait improvement physiotherapy. I'm just getting back to aqua therapy next week. There are medical and rehabilitation resources available here but I currently lack sufficient funds to take advantage of them, hence my rebooted Gofundme campaign to help me continue my stalled recovery. Any donation of any size is welcome at any time. Thank you and God bless

January, 2025

This is a an update on my recovery and a respectful request for additional financial support to cover my ongoing physiotherapy three times a week. On Mondays, I have aqua therapy at the Adapt Tec Therapy Lap Pool in nearby Zapolan and on Wednesdays and Fridays I have an in home physiotherapist, with Juan for an hour. Both are complementary and I'm making steady progress. But this therapy is out of pocket as well as my home support five days a week. The physio costs 1800.pesos or 135 CAD a week and the home support about 150. CAD. a week Hence, any sponsorship or donation in any amount would be most welcome to support my rehabilitation journey. Once fully recovered, my plan is to repatriate back to Kelowna, British Columbia in 2025 where I can reinstate my Canadian health coverage and move forward into the next chapter of my retirement life after this medical crisis. Thank you for your consideration and God bless.

On July 20th, my ordinary Saturday morning took a dramatic turn when I suffered a mini-stroke, collapsing with a blood pressure of 190. Rushed to Santa Maria Chapalita Hospital, Guadalajara, I spent three weeks stabilizing and starting intensive physiotherapy with expert Juan. However, my insurance only covers inpatient treatment, leaving me to fund:

- Ambulance fee
- Medications
- Physiotherapy sessions (three times a week) 1800 pesos or $135.CAD
- Home support/ two months 12 hours per day
- Retrofitting my home with essential medical equipment and supplies for daily living

I'm now in the start of the third month of an approximately six-month rehabilitation recovery journey and repatriation back to British Columbia, Canada in February of2025. Any sponsorships or donations will go towards rigourous physiotherapy, medications, two months of post hospital home support, medications My private health insurance only covered INpatient care. Everything is extra. YOUR SUPPORT will be invaluable in my ongoing healing process.

Though grateful for the kindness of friends and acquaintances in Guadalajara, Mexico, who have visited and offered support, I must admit that a little more help is needed to avoid burdening those who have already been so generous. If you're able to assist me with a donation or sponsorship of any amount during this challenging time, I would be immensely grateful and appreciative. Muchas gracias y God bless..

A bit about me: I'm a 69-year-old retired Canadian elementary teacher who relocated to Mexico five years ago, without family. Your support would mean the world to me.

I'd love to see you if you're able to visit! As of Tuesday, August 13th, I've been discharged from Santa Maria Chapalita Hospital and am now recovering at home in the Chapalita neighborhood of Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico. The next two months of home support is crucial for my recovery, with a daily nurse and physiotherapist visiting three times a week. Your financial support and companionship would be a huge help - whether it's sharing a meal or just having a coffee and conversation. Please reach out to me on WhatsApp at +52 33 2837 8789 or contact Armelle from TWIG (thisweekinguadalajara.com) for more info.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart :)
