Hello, my name is Kiara. I’m a 39-year-old female and a single mother of 5 beautiful children. Some may know me and some may not. There's my story. I used to be fun, adventurous, and outgoing. Who loved exercising, playing sports, and doing fun activities with my children and family. In the past few years, I've had two serious spinal surgeries which affected the strength of my legs and arms. The inability to do things I once loved to do and what is required as a mother.
Unfortunately, as of recent I had an accident once again and I fell then landed on a roller skate that was left out by one of my twin daughters. What would be the chance that I landed on the part of my spine where my Laminectomy was done? I was in terrible pain and couldn't move my legs.
I was rushed to the hospital. Where I spent over a week. The doctors couldn't figure out why I couldn't move the lower half of my body and why I had immense unbearable pain. Including some other serious medical complications. The MRI images did reveal some concerns but they did not explain why other serious medical conditions were happening. Since the doctors couldn't figure it out and refused to do any spinal surgery. To avoid further damage. They discharged me to an inpatient rehabilitation center with no idea of how long I would remain. A week went by and then I finally met with my amazing Dr. Quinn. Who performed a number of series of tests and did a thorough evaluation. After the tests and evaluations were completed he diagnosed me with a rare medical syndrome named Cauda Equina Syndrome. A very serious and quite rare medical condition. The only fix would be yet another spinal surgery to relieve the pressure within my spine that were affecting me from the waist down. Now other surgeons have refused to perform the surgeries. Due to the previous neuro surgeon notes. But my Dr. refuses to quit so he started advocating for me. Due the seriousness of this condition because if don't get this surgery. I could become paralyzed from the waist down in time.
Until then I’m in a wheelchair while having PT & OT twice a day. Now Im unable to work which puts my children & Me in a serious and delicate financial situation. Although I’m scared and have a fear of being judged while being vulnerable. I have to put all my feelings aside. In order to reach out to everyone who may be reading this and ask to please help donate to our cause. That supports my family and me. As you may know, unfortunate situations happen but life doesn't stop. Bills still come, children have needs, their activities, school projects, and the list goes on. If you’re reading this. Thank you for taking time out your day and reading our story. We truly appreciate each of you. May God bless each of. Any help for our cause would be a true blessing. Showing someone they are not alone is a truly precious gift.
