I did not foresee this accident; who could?
On June 24, 2025, due to extreme temperatures and likely dehydration, my blood sugar spiked to 480, causing me to lose consciousness with impaired vision and collide with a utility pole. My insurance is unhelpful, and I am currently unemployed. I have always aimed to assist others, and now my family and I find ourselves in need of support.
I was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Trauma, where I was promptly subjected to a CT scan of the head to check for swelling, bleeding, or potential fractures. Fortunately, the scan yielded clear results. However, additional scans of my right hip indicated both a dislocation and a fracture of the acetabulum. In the emergency room, I was sedated so the trauma team could reposition the hip. I was placed in skeletal traction with a pin through the tibia until my blood sugar stabilized and surgery could be conducted.
It was a flurry of blood draws, examinations, markings on the hip, and numerous compassionate healthcare professionals who readily held my hand and offered prayers. I was terrified.
The surgery took place early the next morning, and I do not recall anything except awakening in recovery and inquiring about the front desk and when my room would be available.
Physical and occupational therapy arrived the following day, assisting me in sitting and standing beside the bed, and they indicated that I performed admirably. The pain was intense, but I was determined to endure and continue on this path to recovery.
I am thankful to everyone at Torresdale and during my rehabilitation at Jefferson Bucks. They are truly exceptional. Consequently, I am pleased to be home with Deb and Sean. The assistance from physical therapy, occupational therapy, and social work has been invaluable.
A journey lies ahead, and I am committed to doing my best. It is challenging to ask for help in my current situation. I appreciate your consideration and friendship, whether you are near or far.
Sincerely,
Mike
