Message from Todd:
I am humbly, humbly, asking for help with my rides to physical therapy, co-pays, out of pocket, and surprise out of network costs. I did physical labor to make ends meet and I can't do that anymore sadly so having to readjust. It's a change since I was 16 years old. Working hard on it.
Due to left big toe amputation 2 years ago after a MRSA infection. Combined with severe genetic neuropathy and birth defects, my left leg is failing .The way it finds the ground each time is unpredictable. I even blew out a pair of shoes during the physical therapy portion! The abnormal twisting of the knee and the ankle and the hip. I can no longer stand on a ladder supporting some of my work. and I have severe chronic pain whether I'm sitting or standing. My doctoral team are just trying to assess when I will have to transition to a wheelchair. Because of these medical costs and the inability to work. I'm raising funds for my medical bills and day-to-day needs as I have to move quickly to recover and adjust my work.
Ironically while spending time at an assisted living facility doing intense physical therapy my foot got infected again. Which is common in healthcare settings. As you can see below, it was inflamed beyond antibiotic treatment and had to be amputated as well which resulted in two surgeries.
7/30/25 update. Second surgery needed to remove some more infected bone and seal up the wound. Pathology says it was definitely MRSA. Which is a bone infection. Sadly spreads quickly and the only way to solve it is to get some of that bone out of there. So my foot is being reshaped again today. Everything is looking good so far in terms of killing it. I took some wicked antibiotics that were really hard on my veins. Kind of like chemo. But that has been paired down some as pathology has determined which specific bacteria is drain it is so they can tailor the antibiotics directly to that strain. Doctors think they did get it all between the regimen of surgeries and serious antibiotics. I've had to switch IV locations each time I put in one of the more serious antibiotics, as it burns out the veins in that area along with the bad stuff. Now just the long road to relearning to walk with the foot I have after the second toe amputation. Wish me luck. Thank you all for your kind outreach and donations. They help a lot as this is all been quite a surprise. I have insurance but it doesn't cover some of the essentials, co-pays, new medications, and income loss. I'll have to have 24 hour post op care for four weeks as well.
Sorry for the graphic nature of one of the photos. This is before they sewed me back up, now just worrying about not reopening that closure. Being very delicate with movement otherwise I'll have big trouble. I don't want any doubt about how much screaming pain I've been in. It's getting better. But really tough to be wheelchair-bound. I'm usually pretty active. The other photo is just a taste of all the volunteering I've done over the years.
I have been a survivor, thriver, and inspirer. Over the years I've put in thousands of hours into charitable boards and other volunteer opportunities. Helping the young and old and disabled. Pretty much anyone vulnerable. I am now there as I work to regain my mobility. It's going to be a bumpy ride, I've always taken care of myself so this is incredibly hard to ask. Please help or support if you can. Every dollar means the world to me.
Update August 3rd. In-home nursing is taking action to provide me with OT and PT as well as wound care. Healthcare system is truly amazing. Sadly still in pain whether I sit or stand or lay down. Trying to book one appointment per day next week. That's all I can handle right now.
