Shirmina and Mariah are two queer Black femmes and co-members of Your Favorite Jawns (@yourfavoritejawns_), a Philly based artist and culture collective aiming to celebrate community and Black femme visibility through art, outreach, and activism. As two women with housing and financial insecurity, specifically during the current world events, we would feel much more comfortable and safer moving out of our current living conditions and moving in together. Our leases end in July/August, and between lack of insulation in the unit and insensitive tenants, what we are forced to pay our landlord for rent at this time isn’t reflective of the space we truly desire and need. It is imperative that we have a collective space of our own so we can further put our best foot forward in serving our community. Due to Covid-19, we have both been laid off our jobs and have been struggling to keep up with a place we barely want to keep living in. We are grateful to anyone who assists us in making our move a reality as all donations will go to deposits, furniture, food, utilities, and rent. As young black women, we have already experienced housing discrimination while searching for a new home, so anything that will make this easier for us is well appreciated. Thank you ❤️
