late thursday evening i went to the gym and used a machine i've used many times before (hack squat machine) but it malfunctioned pretty terribly, the weight crushing down on me. an ambulance came to take me to the emergency room to investigate. both my kneecaps were displaced and i tore the patella ligaments in both knees and i ended up having an emergency surgery on both knees friday morning at 8am. i am still am in the hospital. the recovery and physical therapy process will be slow, apparently. i (very likely) won't be teaching the fall semester because of this. and i’ll be discharged to a rehab facility for several weeks before i can return home and do things like walk my dog, speckles.
