Hello! My name is Charity and I’m struggling. The past 5 months of my chronically ill journey has been the hardest I’ve ever gone through. Not eating, extreme pain, vomiting, falling asleep on toilets, crohns flair in my throat and mouth, passing out on busses, 6 ER trips and admissions within a month, resulting in an emergency surgery that without I would have died. After the surgery I thought things would be hard but somewhat easier. But it hasn’t. I have a temporary illestomy which is my intestines looped out through my stomach to give my bowels time to heal from the surgery.
I’ve struggled with Ill fitting bags, insurance fighting me on supplying my bags not quickly enough or for the ones that properly fit. I reapplied for social security during the start of all of this and have yet to be approved which means my insurance has been cut off. That means my bag supplies have to come out of pocket. $150 dollars per order for plastic bags. It also means that if my insurance can’t get sorted out by the time it’s time for operation #2, that will also come out of pocket and with a hefty copay before they can do anything. What’s the scariest right now is not being able to get my bags. When what comes out of the illestomy touches your skin, it causes severe dermatitis. Illestomy out put on dermatitis feels like, what I imagine hot acid on being poured onto an open blistering burn feels like, because that’s basically what it is. Not having bags is what causes this.
I haven’t been able to work full time since July, I’ve exhausted what savings I had, my families savings and every other route I can think of for help. If there’s anything that you could spare to help me get my bags I will be eternally grateful. If you can’t spare anything i understand, even a simple share would mean the world to me though.
