Young Single Mum NK robbed, left in debt and facing eviction

A single mother (N.K.) of young children is left deeply traumatized after robbers broke into her home, stealing the cash and possessions she had from her home in Melbourne’s outer suburbs last week. She had been saving to pay off her debts, cover rental arrears, get a license to buy a car to help with transportation for her children. Having moved here only two years ago, she lacks a support network due to being isolated by her abusive husband. He had pressured her into taking out loans and then disappeared with all the money, just a few days before the recent robbery, leaving her stranded and penniless. Since then, she has had no contact with him.

She is also currently in a few months' rental arrears and being chased and harrassed by debt collectors. The lady only has $49 in her bank. She is not entitled to Centrelink due to her residency status and for the same reason, eligible for very limited financial aid services.

My name is Shazia and I'm currently working with this woman as her crisis support worker. This fundraiser has been initaited with her consent and oversight. I'm advocating for NK with various agencies to support this family. The funds will be used to pay off her rental arrears with direct transfer to the proerty agent and the rest will be given to the sister to pay off her debts or use for her ongoing daily expenses. We have been able to organise grocery vouchers for the family, and were able to negotiate some waivers on her debts through financial counselling services too!

I'm reaching out for help from all of you, for this beautiful young sister and her kids. Every penny counts to help her pay her rental arrears and outstanding debts as she is at the risk of eviction.
