My nephew Seamus will be running his first half marathon, the 2025 Bishop Fleming Great West Run, on Sunday 25th May. He is raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society on behalf of my wife Anna. Seamus says; “Anna was born in Liverpool and trained as a Nurse in London where she met her wife of 37 years, my brilliant and forever loving aunt Rachel. Anna has had an amazing life, qualifying as a Nurse in 1988 and working in the field of HIV for her entire career; firstly on the wards when there was no specialist treatment and then as a Manager in the community, seeing the huge progress in HIV care. Anna’s care, expertise and knowledge set her out amongst her peers and she lectured widely too. Anna was diagnosed with Young Onset Alzheimer’s at the tender age of 51 years old which sadly ended the career she loved. Despite the severity of Anna’s illness now and the many challenges she faces - Anna still has a love for life and lots of laughter - supported in a care home now but with loving family and friends around her! As a young boy I remember wonderful conversations with Anna about life and music, and even whilst struggling over the last few years she has come to many of the plays I’ve been part of as a young actor. I’m forever thankful for having her support, and this is a chance for me to give something back to a woman I greatly admire and deeply love.”
