Rachel Hrbek’s extended family is organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Rachel Hrbek and her family.
HOW IT BEGAN:
Only a few months ago, Rachel, 33, was sharing a normal, healthy life with her husband, Bryan, and their only child, Wyatt. Following a rapid period of unusual fatigue and weight gain, Rachel’s bloodwork revealed a shocking diagnosis—an incredibly rare liver disease (10 in 1,000,000 in the US) called Budd-Chiari Syndrome. The swiftness and severity of this disease had quickly and lethally damaged her liver beyond repair. The only treatment available to Rachel was a liver transplant.
WHAT NOW:
Rachel was priority-listed for a transplant on Dec. 28th, and on January 3rd received her new, life-saving liver transplant. The reality of this miracle comes at a cost that is far beyond the means of her family to pay. This is why we have organized this page.
WHY OUR REQUEST:
Rachel and Bryan were both working full-time when all this began in October. Rachel is a school speech therapist helping children in K-8th grades but has been unable to work since her diagnosis, nor will she be able to work for most, if not all, of this current school year. Bryan has had to cut back to part-time at his work during this ordeal and will continue to do so to help Rachel at home and drive her to the many follow-up appointments.
Like most American families facing catastrophic medical conditions, losing a full income and potentially half of another makes it virtually impossible for Rachel and family to pay all of their bills. They need financial help during her extended recovery period—no donation is too small or too big. We give you our heartfelt thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
