Help us launch Young Makers' Sewing Club and inspire the next generation of creators

Imagine being 10 years old and discovering that you can turn an idea in your imagination into something real.

  • An outfit.
  • A bag.
  • A cushion.
  • A costume.
  • A future career.

That's exactly what I want to help children discover through Young Makers' Sewing Club (YMSC).

My name is [Your Name], and I'm a fashion designer, marketer and creative entrepreneur. But before any of that, I was simply a young girl with a passion for fashion and a dream.

I taught myself to sew because I wanted to create the clothes I could see in my head. I had no formal training—just curiosity, determination and a willingness to keep trying until I got it right.

That one skill changed my life; It gave me confidence. It gave me a creative outlet. It taught me resilience and problem-solving. Eventually, it became the foundation of my own fashion business.

Now I want to pass that opportunity on to the next generation.

The moment that changed everything

Recently, I visited Grace Mary Primary School during Careers Week to talk to Year 6 pupils about my career.

I took some of my designs with me and shared my journey—from teaching myself to sew to building a business doing something I love.

The children were fascinated.

They asked incredible questions about fashion, design and running a business.

Then one question stopped me in my tracks.

"Can you teach us how to sew?"

Several pupils asked if I could come back and teach them.

Some of the girls even asked if I could make their prom dresses.

My immediate thought was...

"I don't want to make your prom dresses - I want to teach you how to make your own."

Because this is about so much more than sewing.

These children weren't simply asking how to use a sewing machine.

They were asking for the chance to create.

  • To learn.
  • To solve problems.
  • To make mistakes.
  • To persevere.
  • To build confidence.
  • To discover what they're capable of.

That conversation cemented something I've been working towards since December 2025.

Introducing Young Makers' Sewing Club

Young Makers' Sewing Club (YMSC) is an initiative that teaches children practical sewing skills alongside creativity, design thinking, sustainability and confidence.

In a world dominated by fast fashion and throwaway culture, I believe it's never been more important for young people to understand how things are made and to experience the pride that comes from making something themselves.

  • Sewing is more than a hobby.
  • It teaches patience.
  • Creativity.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Problem-solving.
  • Resilience.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Pride in your work.

These are skills that benefit children throughout their lives, whatever career they choose.

We already have a school ready to begin

Grace Mary Primary School has expressed its enthusiasm for hosting Young Makers' Sewing Club from September 2026.

The plan is to work with up to 10 pupils during weekly Friday afternoon sessions.

The only thing standing in the way is funding.

Our goal: £3,000

We're raising £3,000 to launch the very first Young Makers' Sewing Club.

The funds will purchase everything needed to get the programme started, including:

Sewing machines
Fabrics and materials
Threads, scissors and sewing tools
Measuring equipment
Learning resources
Project materials

Every penny raised will go towards creating a safe, inspiring and creative learning environment where children can discover new skills and unlock their potential.

This is only the beginning

My ambition isn't to stop with one school.

I want to prove the impact of this programme locally and then expand Young Makers' Sewing Club into schools across the West Midlands—and eventually across the UK.

I've already been in discussions with Sandwell Council and other public organisations about delivering the programme more widely. While those conversations have been paused due to budget constraints, I'm determined not to let this vision stop here.

That's why I'm turning to the community.

How you can help...

Whether you can donate £5 or £500, every contribution brings us one step closer to putting sewing machines into children's hands and opening doors to new possibilities.

If you're a business, your support could also form part of your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and directly invest in the next generation of creative talent.

If you can't donate today, sharing this campaign with your friends, family, colleagues or employer could make all the difference.

Together, we can give young people more than sewing lessons.

We can give them confidence; Creativity, practical skills, a sense of achievement and perhaps even the first step towards a future they never imagined.

Thank you for believing in Young Makers' Sewing Club.

Let's help the next generation discover what they're capable of creating.
