Hello everyone, and thank you for taking the time to read this.
My name is Atheena, and I'm fundraising for my son Jacob's family, who've been displaced by a fire. Fire started in the unit above them due to careless smoking in the unit early morning of Sept 6. Jake and Jasmine have 2 boys, 1 under 10 and 1 newborn, as well as 1 cat.
I'm raising funds to help them survive (food, clothes, transportation, storage, and a place to live). We are unsure of damage to contents as they aren't allowed back in yet.
This is a traumatic event for anyone who has experienced it before, but even more when children/babies are involved.
The home is owned by the bank and bank won't tell them anything about entering the unit or returning their last month's rent, or if the bank will cover relocation/emergency housing/storage etc. until the investigation is complete.
Their stay at the motel will end in a few days, Fri Sept 19; they're extremely stressed out not knowing what their next step is without answers from anyone they contact.
We are extremely grateful that Red Cross provided some gift cards for food n necessities and have helped them stay in a motel up until this Friday Sept 19; but it has been quite a challenge with a fridge being the only appliance in the room and unable to make meals. Thankfully on the 19th they were informed their stay at motel has been extended for 1 week ending Fri Sept 26; unfortunately all family emergency shelters are full and they've been added to waitlists.
They're on DASH list (Dur Access Social Housing) but seeking private landlord on list or find one who is willing. Dash will pay landlord directly(if preferred) every month for remainder of rent not covered by tenants..ex. Rent is 1400 tenant pays 1200 Dash pays landlord remaining 200. If you are a landlord/know a landlord seeking tenants for a 2 bedroom unit (possibly 3 bedroom depending on cost?)please contact them at [email redacted]. Hoping for Bowmanville since closer than Peterborough for medical appointments..but not excluding anywhere.
Adding to the stress is the fact that DASH hasn't told them an idea of how much they will provide towards the rent but tells them THEY THEMSELVES need to find a place/landlord that's suitable and willing...BUT how can you do that when you don't know what monthly help you can get to know what's affordable???
Adds alot of stress to an already majorly stressful situation.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, as well as sharing this link with as many others as possible.
May your lives, family, and loved ones be blessed always.
My heartfelt thanks to you all,
Atheena R
