Young Family Needs Help - A Christmas Favor

Donation protected

My husband, Andrew, is a baker working 70+ hours a week so I can stay home with our daughter, Azélie (2 years), and our son, Lawrence (10 months). He enlisted in the US NAVY as a nuclear technician to ship out on 06/10/2021.

On Saturday, my husband accidentally stabbed his hand with a shard of glass. Immediately, he lost the ability to move his thumb. To avoid emergency room fees, we waited until Monday to contact our primary care doctor, who referred us to an orthopedic doctor. Andrew severed a tendon in his thumb. If the tendon is not surgically repaired within 7-10 days, it will be irreparable. The hand specialist recommend surgery in under 24 hours so his surgery is Tuesday afternoon. His recovery will be 8 weeks where he cannot use his dominant (right) hand. Unfortunately, Andrew’s insurance benefits were supposed to start 12/24/20, meaning he is currently uninsured. We will lose all our income immediately as he will not be able to work at all with one hand, given the nature of his work. This surgery is essential because otherwise he would disqualify from the US Navy, the next step for our family.

I will be looking for employment immediately however, Monday morning, I fell down the stairs and partially tore two ligaments in my right ankle. I will be in a boot for a month. I currently have health insurance coverage so thankfully those costs are not major concern, however, it will make it more difficult to care for Andrew post-surgically as well as our two children, not to mention attempting to secure employment. When it rains it pours.

We will be using these funds to cover both medical and living expenses including rent, utilities, and food costs. We have already had to make $500+ deposits for the procedure and know there are more bills to come.

We know how hard 2020 has been for everyone, financially and otherwise. If you cannot give monetarily, I understand and I don’t love you any less. Those of you who know me well know how difficult it is for me to ask for help. Frankly, I don’t know if I would be capable of doing this, but my kids need me to. As other parents would relate, this is the driving force for so much of what we do. We appreciate your compassion and support in this time, whatever form it takes.

Some may say we need a Christmas Miracle, but we’re asking for a Christmas Favor.
