Young Dad Lost Battle with Rare Cancer - Ian Wylie
Donation protected
In 2016, in one of lifes cruel turn of events, this amazing, hard-working, family-orientated young man was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of Cancer at just 27; Synovial Sarcoma. Synovial Sarcoma is a sub type of soft tissue sarcoma cancer. It’s very rare and extremely aggressive. It affects 1-3 people in a million. Ian Wylie was one of those extremely unlucky few. But he continued to stand up and fight back with every ounce of his being and made the whole family proud.
Sadly, on the 26th February, this brave and amazing man lost his fight to cancer! He went peacefully and comfortably at home with his wife (Sarah), his mam (Jeanette) and step dad (Steve) by his side!
He has spent the last 3.5 years powering through radiotherapy and chemotherapy with his strong family by his side. And when the market drugs simply weren't having the desired effect but he was thankfully accepted onto a Phase I clinical trial of ImmTAC®, a collaboration between Immunocore and GSK, in London. Still, through all of this, Ian continued to do everything he could to make everyone happy! Ian managed to battle this disease every day and still found time to marry his amazing and unbelievably strong wife, Sarah, and raise two beautiful souls in Lucie (12) and Hannah (7 today - 28 Feb). His "special little girls".
Ian was absolutely everything to Sarah, Lucie and Hannah, and to the whole family. He could light up a room with his smile! He was a big softie with a huge heart but a stubborn one who could be a right wind up and we wouldn’t have had him any other way! He will be greatly missed but always loved by us and many more. He left a lasting impression with everyone that he met! I've never met anyone quite like him, who would give you his very last without hesitation - and quite regularly did!
Unfortunately, with the clinical trial came long periods of travelling back and forth to London from Hartlepool and this quickly ate through family savings. As Ian didn't have life insurance due to the young age at which he was diagnosed, the family had limited help with the costs of this tragic illness and had to pull together to get through. Who thinks that something like this would happen at 27!? It's tragic!
This is why I have decided to set up a GoFundMe for my amazing cousin, as I know that this family security would be something that he desperately tried for. With the help of our family and friends, we want to give the immediate family headspace to grieve without having to worry about the funeral costs and to help get Sarah and the girls set up for life without Ian. Alongside money towards funeral costs, another aim of the fundraiser will be to provide Sarah with a reliable car to get the girls across town to school and their gymnastics sessions so that they can maintain some level of normality. It will also go towards supporting Sarah to take some much needed away from work with the girls to come to terms with this devastating blow.
If you have the ability to donate toward helping this family, no matter the amount, we would be very thankful. The struggle of losing someone so young and who means so much will never be easy. We hope they are able to manage the financial struggle with more ease. With your help they will.
Thank you for any help you can provide in this desperately sad time for our family. Any help you could provide would be appreciated beyond measure.
As I am not fundraising for myself, I have appointed Ian's brother, Thomas Wylie, and his wife, Becky, to be the beneficiary of this page. Through them, the money will be paid out for the funeral costs and the remainder passed onto Ian's girls to help them.
