Youhanna: An Immigrant's Story
Donation protected
A note from Luke Abraham (Director/Writer):
Hi! Thank you so much for checking out the GoFundMe! This short film is my capstone project at UTS. This is a very personal story I want to tell, and with your generosity, you have the power to tell an immigrant's story.
My short film ‘Youhanna’ tells the immigrant story of silence in assimilation and grief and is based off a moment from my father’s life. In the making of this film I hope to bring life to a lady who bought life to those around her, my great grandmother.
I never had the chance to meet her but I have gotten to know her through interviews with her grandchildren and cousins, and the same way that Sitti Jorah connects Anthony to his cultural past, she is connecting me with mine as I learn about the way she would create, cook and teach.
This film tells a story that is very personal and intimate to my family however, has themes that can be related to by both the wider migrant population and those who have lost someone they love.
Funds collected through this GoFundMe will go towards catering and transport costs for the cast & crew that are making this filmmaker's dream a reality.
For just $20, you can be part of the story and cover the cost of a cast or crew member's lunch for the day. $40 will cover catering for one cast or crew member throughout the shoot.
Logline:
‘Did we buy lemons?’
These were the first three English words Anthony had ever heard his grandmother say.
For the first time in his life, Anthony can truly speak and listen to his grandmother, and after 20 years of waiting, traditions, culture and a buried past are finally ready to be revealed.
